The Robot Ate Me

The Robot Ate Me has changed their sound on every album, not a dramatic change usually but a fairly noticeable one. The new album Good World is the least accessible of there's, I knew this would be the case after I got a glimse of the whole from the track Djien. Their last album, Carousel Waltz had Ryland Bouchard doing more straight forward compositions and the songwriting was at my personal favorite. The first album They Ate Themselves however had them sounding the most interesting. So one album had my favorite songwriting and another had my favorite sound, not to be confused. The new album features frequent clarinet, a higher voice, an out of tune 1800's piano and drum machineering. Its hard to get into at first, maybe I'm just not that open minded or maybe I just wanted Carousel Waltz II: Waltz Harder. Few of the tracks are pretty great but sometimes the short lenghts of the songs hold them back.

Among my favorite tracks from the album the one I enjoy most has to be Bloody Knife #3

The Robot Ate Me - Bloody Knife #3

of course there is also Djien

The Robot Ate Me - Djien

and from previous albums

The Robot Ate Me - Our Bones Were Chalk
The Robot Ate Me - They Ate Themselves
The Robot Ate Me - The Genocide Ball
The Robot Ate Me - On Vacation
The Robot Ate Me - Bad Feelings
The Robot Ate Me - A hole in the plane (unreleased)

I bought Carousel Waltz after hearing some stuff from They Ate Themselves, I was kinda dissapointed with it because of the overly cheery and "niceness" of the songs, so perhaps this album will be more for me...

Sounds pretty bizarre on first listen though ;)
