Cut faster

School has started once again and all is fresh and new. This is the best part of the semester because I haven't gotten to that stage where I hate the class and hate going but I force yourself to go. In my opinion all classes should be done in the style of summer school where you have 5 weeks to learn a subject and you take two classes a month. Atleast I learn better that way when I have the same class everyday.

Also I found Death From Above 1979 doing Romantic Rights on Conan with Max Weinberg. I watched the begining and kind of started looking away then I looked again and Max Weinberg jumped in and started playing drums in the band. Crazyness.

IE fix

I finally got around to fix this site for Internet Explorer since it was a trainwreck for the past few months. I never use the browser very often, it got bumped down to 3rd string browser so it was easy to forget that it looked the way it did with the sidebar fonts. But all is fixed, it was all just my lame html skills which I corrected. The site still looks weird on IE but its looks perfect on Mozilla Firefox. I might change few things to make things more sexy but other than that things are going to be pretty much the same.

Pit Er Pat

I was listening to the new Pit Er Pat, 3d message EP and I'm slightly disappointed but not completely. It has their trademark sound but the songs seems like they were put together really quickly. I haven't gotten my hands on Shakey, their debut album on Thrill Jockey but I did find few tracks from that which caught my attention.

Pit Er Pat consists Butchy Fuego on drums, the classically-trained piano skills of Fay Davis-Jeffers and bassist Rob Doran. They hail from Chicago and carry that city in their sound.



The EP features four songs and lasts 15 minutes, it was recorded on their last tour at John McEntire’s Soma Studios.

King of the Hill is suppose to take place in an imaginary North Texas city called Arlen which would be around where I have been living for 20 some odd years. Coincidently I grew up in Allen, which sounds very similar to Arlen. I want to say that the show doesn't represent North Texas but that wouldn't be true, it represents a large portion of the population... not everyone.

I'm really digging the new Minus Story as I mentioned previously. Its one of my favorites of this year, its worth picking up. I had this song stuck in my head all day which makes it worthy of a post.

I would never thought I would ever hear a band as big as the Foo Fighters cover a Jawbreaker song but alas it has been done. Jawbreaker opened for Foo Fighters ages ago when they were still together in the mid 90s. I always thought the Foo Fighters might of been fans of Jawbreaker, which this song confirms. This is one of my favorites by Jawbreaker, a true classic only initially released on a compilation, covered by the Foo Fighters on the Best of You single.

Friends of P

I'm still moving around, not staying in one place and doing a lot of driving. This whole weekend I never really had much time with my computer and have couple of albums to still listen to. I did however finally get a hold of Minus Stories, No Rest for Ghosts and its very excellent and worth checking out.

I'm still wondering if I should pre-order John Vanderslices Pixel Revolt, I know I'm going to get it but I'm not sure how I'm going to approach doing that. I can't stop listening to Peacocks in the video rain from the album, still available one the sidebar at Travelers Diagram.

I still have to give the new Kanye West, new Fruit Bats, the last one by Do Make Say Think, an Extra Glens album and 11 others a listen to. I think this week I can make my way through those.

I can't type too well today because I messed up my finger last night with some hallway football so I'll keep this post short. I've been lazying around all day and listening to some Daniel Johnston tunes. He's been putting out music for about 20 years or so and is a great Texas songwriter. Here are a few of my favorites;

Anticipation 7 inch

I've had this laying around for a while and it always makes it back into my music rotation every once in a while. Spoon released this 7inch in 1998 titled Anticipation and is now available on its second pressing for only $4.

Originally released in 1998 on black vinyl this 7" has been reissued by Mag Wheel Records in Toronto. Limited release of 770 on clear red vinyl! Two perfect hook driven songs unavailable on any other release. A slice of Spoon's history available again

Real quick

My lame ISP had its port reset for the year or something like that so I haven't had internet for a while. It should of been a half day thing but it turned into few days. I haven't been able to check up on my daily blogs and webpages to see what going on in the world but this down time has given me time to catch back up on my music collection.

I'm pretty excited about the new Grandaddy album coming out and I'm loving the EP. I like the new direction the band is taking with the sound, I wasn't a big fan of the direction they were going on their last LP Sumday, I think it was the production.

I like the write up Aversion did about Puff Daddy changing his name again. I don't think its lame. How cool is it that whenever you feel like changing your alias you get all this publicity. I go through atleast one new alias every other month and you don't here anyone talking about it. I think he does it because he can and because people pay attention.

Looks like I'm getting kicked off this computer so thats that.

Two weeks

I have two weeks of vacation with no big plans, I'm just going to lazy around for a while just because I can. Maybe I can do some of the things I've been meaning to do like figure out whats wrong with this page on IE, sell some stuff on Amazon, and most importantly configure my fantasy football team. I didn't really have any intentions of setting a team up but I had few drinks and came in to my place to pass out one night and saw a commercial for it on ESPN, for some reason I thought it would be the coolest thing ever. Few days later I checked my email and it said I registered for it. It shouldn't be that lame, in high school one of our classes was taught by a coach and he thought we should all have a fantasy football team because he couldn't come up with a whole days lesson plan and half the football team was in the class. Throw in playing some basketball, video games and late nights and you have the conclusion to my 2 week vacation.

I'm posting right now away from my usual station on a very slow connection without any of my bookmarks. Not to worry dear readers, posts will be regular with few holes here and there but who's perfect.

Perseid

Here is a little heads up for those of you who are going to be up late tomorrow (Aug 12) or up early Saturday, the Perseid meteor shower should be visable in the NE sky. Here is a little what, when and where for you. Last meteor shower I saw 13+ meteors while driving and on my patio without any equipment other than my eyes.

Razorblade Runner has a great Aesop Rock track worth checking out called Facemelter. I wasn't always an Aesop Rock fan, it took a few listens to get me into him. What got me to keep on listening was the great production. My favorite release by Aesop Rock is Labor days with production by El-P and Blockhead, I'm pretty sure I've posted a track from that on here before. He has a lyrical style that you just can escape....

I Remember

I finally got a hold of that new Animal Collective album Feels. I like their previous effort a lot so I have high hopes for this release. I have no opinion on it because I got it few minutes ago and I'm only 2 minutes into the first track as I type right now. Sounds good from what I hear right now. You can't beat song titles like Flesh Canoes. They did however recently release an EP with folk legend Vashti Bunyan, here is a track from that EP release;

Minders

I've had this song by The Minders stuck in my head all day, Yeah Yeah Yeah from Horrary for Tuesdays. If I remember correctly this song was written by the bass guitarist who only wrote few songs for the band. The band has had a Decemberist and a Jick and members of at least 4 other bands pass through its line up.

HWM

If I ever wanted to listen to anything that really rocks I could always count on a Hot Water Music track to get me there. I hadn't paid much attention to them in few years and then I heard they were breaking up. The remaining members have started another band called The Draft and have written songs and played a show or two. Since I heard about the break up, HWM have made frequent visits into my music rotation lately. I must say though their later stuff didn't really do it for me as much as their earlier material.

OYA

If you didn't download the Ogre You Asshole EP I posted on June I think its worth your effort. I don't like to post the same thing again but I like their music that much. Sure the vocals are in Japanese but damn can they rock. Also to be noted I'm liking those drums a lot.

OYA - Lobotomy This whole song is pretty good and has a nice formula to it but my favorite part is the chorus and when he does the ahaahaa ah @ 0:58 second mark. Also when they let the song bust open at 4:16 it reminds me of Modest Mouse before they (collectively) stopped doing drugs.

OYA - Kaisentou If they were ever to release a single from the Demo EP I would think that this would be a good choice. I like the guitar riff and the vocals are not bad.

One of my favorite bands is coming out with an album soon and I completely forgot. Then I randomly saw a song by them on sixeyes and liked it so I looked into it then it hit me. Minus Story's new album No Rest for Ghosts is coming out on October, 11 on Jagjaguar. I think some other blogs posted these tracks but if you haven't heard them they are worth checking out.

Random Comp.

Late posts are coming to be more common because of my schedule, I used to be at the helm of my computer early on in the day but my schedule now has me waking up and out the door before I have a chance to think but then I'm back at night and usually up pretty late. Also I've been in kind of a mood lately (about a month) that I just want to go to the webpages that I visit daily and then just zone out and listen to or play music. I don't meander as much as I used to. Its cool though, I always try to update daily and I will always have a piece of space on the web, ever since 98? 97? with various incarnations.

The weekend was a wild one though, my roommate was moving out so we partied pretty hard. There was one point in the night that afterwards I don't remember anything...clearly. I don't know how I got to my bed but I woke up there. Also I think I got hit on the side of my head... or I slept with my head on the remote.
